Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The tinted liquid is then applied over a photo or on to an art board using brushes of various sizes. This is the perfect class to teach you how to mix tubes of oil colors and oil pigment sticks with encaustic wax for painting a picture independently or over images utilized as under-paintings. This hands-on workshop will teach you how to hand color by adding pigment sticks and oil pastels to encaustic wax over black and white photographs We will also work with subtle earth tones to create a vintage style that makes the piece look like it's over 100 years old. In this workshop you will learn to brush on a palette of mixed colors to artistically paint tinted wax for a 3-dimensional look. We will cover how to mount photo prints onto wood panels, apply wax over images and introduce tools and techniques. A demonstration of how to add texture using brush strokes and building up a wax surface vs smooth surfaces keeping a dream-like mystery to your art. Next the creative painting steps how to mix oil colors and wax to achieve a variety of results. This workshop will cover hand coloring with translucent oil pigments using finger tips, applying oil color and wax with small brush for detail and utilizing a fine pointed calligraphy tool to add dots. Demonstrations will also include adding and subtracting color along with using thick bold colors as opposed to a faint dab of color. Everything is included, however, you can bring your own choice of oil colors to try in tubes, sticks or oil pastels (my first choice is Sennelier). All materials are included. Expect to make 2 art pieces ready to display
